\n He hasn't even mentioned using midi and likely isn't using the midi
\nports for SM. He specifically stated USB.

\n Very bad advice if someone reads this as you saying that it's ok to move
\na
\nlocked fader less than 100mm or even 5mm. Anyone that has ever worked on a
\nconsole with flying faders knows that you can very easily cripple the fader
\nmotor if it's locked and you force it. The answer is to find out "why" they
\nare locked and unlock them via mechanical command, the way they became
\nlocked in the first place. This is pilot error in almost all cases.
\n You must be talking about something else. If you can't move a fader very
\neasily
\nit's a 99.9999% chance that it is not the fader motor, but command error. So
\nYES, you better worry about moving a fader that has 'any' strain on it and
\nnever
\ngo the full 100mm ever, it should not even be considered, just a light touch
\nwill tell you if it's locked. This is one of the first thing that all
\nconsoles with flying faders will tell you. Do Not force a fader with your
\nfinger, if it doesn't want to move
\n
\n David, Go to SETUP>right arrow under display>F1 Midi/Host tab>Under
\nSpecial
\nFunctions Port enable USB on the Studio Manager line, give it an ID number
\nthat matches on your laptop.
\n For example in Studio Manager>File>System Setup>under Console Device ID,
\nmake sure that the same number is set that is in Special Functions on the
\nhardware mixer. If you are only using one USB device just set it to ID # 1
\non both laptop and mixer in Special Functions pane. DAW and everything else
\nshould be set to - which means none. The USB port can also be used for midi
\ncommands that are not relative to Studio Manager and will say Midi by
\ndefault, you do not need to set USB up there, it will conflict with USB SM,
\njust use the right hand pane and leave the General page blank by default.
\nMake sure that you have installed the USB driver on your laptop.
