\n
\n> Ronny.....thanks for your reply and welcoming me to the group. I
\n> look forward to many years of great 01V96 mixing.
\n>
\n> Just a clarification question. You stated:
\n>
\n> >If you want to go 96k and mix 5.1 in your explained intention, than
\n> >you may want to use the MY16-AT and have 12-96k outs, 6 going to
\n> >your 5.1 recorder and 6 going to your surround speakers.
\n>
\n> I own the my16AT so I'm going to stick with it. The question is in
\n> this setting I assume you would be monitoring your input sources (
\n> as opposed to signals returning from the MAC) since they would be
\n> routed to Buses 1-6 that would feed both the recorder and the
\n> speakers. If you used the other option:
\n>
\n
\nYes, in this scenario you are just monitoring before the recorder, for example if you use the v96 to
\nmonitor post recorder from Mac. You are feeding your signals to the Mac and back in the V to
\nmonitor, monitoring from the board and not post recorder back to the V, will allow you to mix to the
\n6 recorder tracks and eliminating any possiblitly of feedback loops. No problem doing it either way,
\nbut you'll still have to separate the post recorder sends monitoring, from the 6 sends going to
\nrecorder.
\n
\n> >In regard to your question of whether it's ok to use the analog
\n> >outs for monitoring 5.1 mixing in conjunction with the ADAT 4 at
\n> >96k. Yes, it's perfectly ok, as the DAC's are very good and you
\n> >have to turn it to analog at some time to hear it anyway.
\n>
\n> even if you configured this system with 12 channels coming back from
\n> the MAC you only have 2 busses and possible the stereo bus left to
\n> route them to...so is there any way to monitor those signals in 5.1
\n> surround using the standard 2 Stereo Outs (Front L&R) and 4 Omni
\n> Outs (Rear L&R, Center & sub)?
\n>
\n> The same question also pertains to a 48K setup. With 6 busses being
\n> used for recording if you pass a monitor signal back to your mixer
\n> how do you monitor it in 5.1 surround?
\n>
\n
\nI assume that by Front L&R stereo outs that you mean the 2TR rca out's. Yes that's possible. However
\nby using the stereo XLR outs and the omni's, it will give 6 balanced +4dBu outs going to all 5
\nmonitors and the LFE sub, instead of the two unbalanced -10dBV sensitivity outputs that are on the
\n2TR outs and the 4 +4dB balanced omni's. IOW, you are mix and matching output sensitivity and
\nbalanced and unbalanced sends with your setup. You can monitor your six channels this way, but the
\nv96 doesn't have a surround encoder, only surround matrix. The encoding to 2 track would have to be
\ndone with DVD authoring on your Mac or PC. So the config that I'm talking about is monitoring 6
\nchannels to 6 separate monitors before any encoding is performed. This allows you to mix let's say
\n24 tracks, down to 6, using the 5.1 surround mode with rotational pans, while monitoring your 6
\nsurround channels going to 6 tracks on recorder, with you in the middle of the surround monitors. By
\nusing the busses in 5.1 surround mode, you'll be able to use the virtual joystick on each channel to
\nset and assign the pan trajectory X-Y axis to each of the 6 master busses that you'll be using to
\nthe speakers.
\n
\n
\n
\n> Thanks again for your help
\n>
\n
\nMy pleasure.
