\n
\n> Hi all,
\n>
\n> I was wondering if anyone has made comparisons between using a single
\n> 02r96 and using 2 cascaded 01v96's for live mixing?
\n>
\n> Our church is looking to change console, and I'm worrying that 2
\n> cascaded desks may cause confusion for some of our operators (who vary
\n> in expertise/confidence/motivation). FYI we need 24 mono channels.
\n>
\n> Is it worth paying more for the 02r96 just to save problems?
\n>
\n> Comments? Opinions?
\n>
\n
\n I'd say that it's not worth paying more for the r96. First off, you are only going to get 4 more
\nstock XLR channels with it over one v96. Second, it's not setup for live work like the v96, it's
\ngeared more towards studio, which the v96 also does. Sonically they have the same dynamic range and
\nbasic architecture, but with the v96 there have been a few improvements, one being fader resolution,
\nincreased 4 fold on the V's. That's one v96 versus the one r96. Let's talke cascaded v96's for 24
\nXLR channels and 8 TRS channels. It's like this, if you know how to operate one v96, you won't have
\nany trouble operating two after 30 minutes understanding the cascade busses and once they are setup,
\njust a few minor things to remember WRT to operating in master and slave mode. There are some other
\npluses, if you have to switch out mic cables, you can do it from the front of the 01v's. With either
\nboard, the learning curve is pretty much the same, you won't have to worry about interns operating
\nthem either, you can set the boards up and simply show the less experienced engineers how to access
\nyour applications assuming that they have a basic understanding of setting gain. The channel strips
\nare the same, the eq's are the same, the fx and dyn's are the same.
\n
\nPersonally I think that you have no worry about the difference in using two v's versus one r96. In a
\nstudio setting having one r96 instead of two V's will save you a bit of room and if surround mixing
\nis in your intended apps the r has the hardware joystick, bigger display and lit displays for eq
\nparameter values. More comprehensive monitor control to tracking room. The optional meter bridge, is
\nnice but not application dependent. Sonically they are the same, so you won't lose any signal
\nclarity with the v96. Save your church some bucks and go with two 01v96's.
\n
\nTC and one other member on this list are cascading V's and can give you the details.
\n
\nWelcome to the list Phil and feel free to ask any questions that you like.
