\n
\n> Hi
\n> I am 42 and have been mixing live sound for over 15 years .
\n> I use smaart to set up my pa and use dsp speaker management systems
\n> to run the crossover setups .
\n> I read most of all 800+ post and ordered my V friday . Should see the
\n> mixer Tuesday .
\n>
\n
\nWelcome to the list, Doug.
\n
\n> I understand most of the routing yet my big hang up is with the
\n> effects routing . I will be using aux 1 for aux fed subs with 2,3 and
\n> 4 for monitors . Shutting off default settings 1-4's aux feeds to
\n> effects processors .
\n> instead I will be assigning 5,6,7 and 8 aux's to run the internal
\n> effects .
\n>
\n> Will the effect routing go ( example channel 1 ) Aux 5 to a effects
\n> processor post fade . Aux 5 master at unity using channel 1 aux 5
\n> feed to set processor level. From processor feed stereo channel 1 .
\n> This is one fader acting as a stereo fader or is it faders one and
\n> two on the stereo layer linked ?
\n
\nThe signal will be mono until it exits the fx processor when using a stereo patch. The stereo buss
\nis always linked at the master fader. The ST IN knobs are linked in stereo for stereo fx returns.
\nAlthough the gain on L and R are on one gain knob, you still have separate pan's.
\n
\n
\n> Now are these faders feeding the st
\n> 1/2 knobs on the front that feed the stereo main outs ? Or does the
\n> the routing go from the effects processor to the st knobs on the
\n> front of the mixer . These two knobs feeding stereo channels 1-4 then
\n> 1-4 feeding the main stereo out?
\n
\nYou will have to route the fx processors through ST IN channels 1-4 regardless of what Auxes you
\nuse, if you want the fx into the FOH mix. The 1/2 and 3/4 knobs on the front panel will act as your
\nfx return levels.
\n
\n
\n> I have downloaded the manual yet still have not quite grasped the flow
\n> of the effects .
\n> I realize this is a novice question but it is just hard to grasp the
\n> effects flow after years with outboard effects, gates ,comp ,etc .
\n> I am trying to get a handle on things before the V comes .
\n>
\n
\nIt will come and it sounds like you have a very good head start by reading the manual.
\n
\n> After years of lugging way to much outboard gear I am looking forward
\n> to a lighter and better sounding rig .
\n>
\n
\nI'll never go back.
\n
\n
\n> Second question . In most analog boards I would set each channels
\n> gain to 0 db or less as required pre fade and have about 18 dbs of
\n> headroom before analog clip in the preamps . What would be a good
\n> setting for each channel as far as gain readings in the V ? My
\n> compressors in the V would be set post gain pre eq, pre fade . I
\n> would use the gain make up to recover or drop gain as needed to read
\n> correct gain structure post compression . Is there metering pre - and
\n> post compression or do you shut off and on compressor to note gain
\n> loss ? Your recommended setup ?
\n>
\n
\nThere are pre and post dyn's meters and a meter for every gain stage. My recommended setup would be
\nto leave the FX routed to Auxes 1-4 by default. Use Aux 5 for your subs and Auxes 6-8 for you
\nmonitors. It will do the same thing as you want but will be closer to default config and anytime
\nthat you start from a new scene at a new venue, the fx will always be there. That was my trouble
\nwhen I first got the V, I was trying to change from the default setting. When you set it up like
\nthis all you will have to do is change the default omni out settings, Aux 5>omni 1, Aux 6>omni 2,
\nAux 7>omni 3, Aux 8>omni 4.
\n
\nIs there any particular reason why you want to change the fx default Auxes from 1-4 to 5-8? Maybe
\nI'm missing something as it looks like it's 6 and one half dozen of the other to me, but with your
\nintention of using 5-8 for fx, it varies from the easiest setup of fx for FOH, which is the default
\nsettings. You will still have aux 5-8 for your subs and monitor sends.
\n
\n> My french to english could be better so all spelling mistakes are
\n> real .
\n> Also I would like to thank TJ Cornish for countless email replies and
\n> directing me to the V . THANKS .
\n> Looking forward to my V and the PC interface.
\n> Thanks for all the replies and for a great reading professional
\n> group .
\n
\nYour English and spelling is better than mine and I only know English.
\n
\nKeep On Trackin'
