Daniel,
The batteries of the MP/A radios are all interchangeable, and there are two different sizes. If your charger is a standard or fast GE/Ericsson charger, either type of battery\nwill work in it. The radio just connects to and sits on top of the battery.

\nI can't speak for Gary, and what he wants you to do during your cross-shipment you guys have going on there, but usually when we talk about "the radio" being shipped around here locally, we mean without the removable battery... \n
Your battery is yours, mine is mine, kind of thing... since if you swap the radios with batteries and one of them is in better condition than the other, you end up stiffing the guy that ended up with the bad battery...\n
Not to mention you might end up with the "other" battery type.
The batteries for the MP/A radios are their achilles heel these days if there is one... they're expensive, and starting to get somewhat difficult to find. The third-party packs seem to suffer from quality issues and don't last as long as the OEM GE/Ericsson packs. \n
I managed to recently get 5 new-old-stock batteries (4 "tall" and 1 "short" packs) and three used ones (2 "tall" and 1 "short") for just under $200 and was VERY happy about that price!\n
Now I have a "supply" of batteries to last me a while, if I take care of them. Now that I have a mini-fleet of batteries I'll probably do some work to test them using the Maha charger and see what their real capacities really are and chart them over time... I'm sure I'll find a dud or two in the "fleet".\n
Speaking of batteries, anyone have any luck with finding or using anyone that rebuilds the packs and puts new cells in them? I've seen a few list members talking about how they've gotten their packs apart and done it themselves, but I'm just not interested in doing that... I have two dead "short" packs for sure, and probably another "tall" pack that's questionable.\n
Oh, another comment for Daniel... if you have a fast charger, hunt eBay for a slow one... the fast chargers are great for a quick charge, but they're really hard on the packs over time... fast charging NiCD will usually shorten the life of the pack dramatically, due to the excess heat that builds up in the pack when it's fast-charged. I think I picked up one of the slow gang chargers once on eBay for $25... well worth it. \n
I have a fast single pack charger also, and rarely use it. Sometimes if I drag the MP/A's along on a trip/vacation, I'll just bring the fast charger... otherwise, it sits on the bench next to the gang charger, unused...\n
