I too built a repeater out of Deltas. The group near here in Dublin,
Va. had a MASTR II repeater that got destroyed by lightning and asked
me to help them out. Rather than do another Mastr II, which I know
nothing about, I opted to work with what I was familiar with. I used
a 110W Delta SX for the transmitter and a 40W Delta S for the
reciever. All mounted to a home-made wooden frame with a fan directed
to blow across the TX heatsink. It works excellent. I did the
interface by drilling a small hole in the case to feed a cable
through, and then I tacked the wires on to where the control cable is
attached to the PC board. Everything is easy to get to, audio, PTT,
CAS, CG detect, etc. For the transmitter, I had to drill 2 more holes
to run power leads out, I tacked those on to where the power would
normally go straight to the PA module. I though this was the best
way, so I\n can use a standard control set on the bench for testing and
have the pigtails out of the radio for the repeater use, and I didn't
want to cut up any control cables. The whole setup just works
excellent. It has been on the air since last July without a hitch. I
use an ICS controller, a 4 cavity WACOM duplexer, and about 60 feet of
7/8 hardline to a DB224 dipole array. It gives excellent coverage on
the I-81 corridor, give us a try on 146.67, carrier squelch. The site
is one such that there isn't any other radio stuff around, so a synth
radio is fine. As a tip, program the frequency you want in CH 16,
then you don't have to do anything with the channel select lines, they
are all pulled up to default to CH 16.
That's my experience anyway.
