\n\n\nHey,\n\nI saw your most recent reply to Dave and his quest to get 25Hz out of\na single-link DVI and/or 41Hz out of two. Do you think it is possible\nfor the single-link laptop setup you have? I'm thinking he might be\ngetting such great success partially due to his FX4500 being so T221\nfriendly whereas it seems most laptops are rather stubborn. Well, when\nI'm behind the screen they are...just wondering what your thoughts are\non this.\n\nM.D.\n\n--- In IBM_T2X_LCD@yahoogroups.com, Sandon Van Ness <sandon@...> wrote:\n\n\n\nThank you for your step 3, it is what allowed me to get spanning \ncorrectly working on a PCI firemv for use in a laptop docking station.\n\n\nyeangchng wrote:\n\n\n\nHi all,\n\nThought I'd contribute some notes regarding my efforts to get the \nX1900XT running with a DG3 and a DG5. Flup, I think I came across \nyour post in the archives a long time ago complaining that spanning \nwas not possible with a 1900XTX. I think I've solved that problem if \nthe two halves to be spanned are identical in resolution.\n\n1) X1900XT drives DG5 in 3-stripe mode just fine. 48Hz, 1 head at \n2624x2400 and the other at 1216 x 2400. However, they are separate \ndesktops, and these resolutions have to be "Forced" from the \nCatalyst control center. For the standard resolutions the Catalyst \ndrivers only list up to 2560 x 1600, surprise surprise.\n\n2) When I try to bridge the two desktops in 3-stripe mode using \nATI's horizontal span function, the card thinks for a while and \ndrops back to 3200x1200 before spanning. So in the default case ATI \ndoesn't allow horz. spanning of more than 2 x 1600x1200 displays.\n\n3) To get around this limitation, download and install ATI Tray \nTools, which is a rather nifty program for tweaking settings. \nUnder "Advanced Tweaks" you'll find several settings (set in the \nregistry) to do with "large panels" and "large desktops". Enable \nthem all, use your common sense (I uninstalled it so I can't give \nthe exact option wording).\n\n4) Now, desktop spanning will work up to 3840x2400, but only if the \ntwo halves are the same dimensions. Trying to span a 3-stripe DG5 \nnow gives 3840x1200 instead of 3200x1200, but if you have two \n1900x2400 halves, you can get a nicely spanned 3840x2400 desktop.\n\n5) In the interest of duplicating David Evans' feat of getting >41 \nHz from 2 single link connections, I installed Powerstrip in the \nhopes that the Radeons would share whatever high-quality part that \nallows David's FireGL X3-256p to do that.\nFollowing his instructions of setting horizontal= 8,8,8 and vertical \n= 1,1,1 with ultra-fine granularity checked, I could only get to \n34.5Hz before continued upwards steps gave only a dark monitor. And \nyes, David, I did not just stop at the first out-of-sync step but \nkept going for 30 more steps like you suggested.\nSo it looks like the FireGL X3-256p (is that right, David?) is \nsomething special that the Radeons do not have the ability to match.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nYahoo!
