\n
\nI always run out of screen real estate, so I got my T221 as a
\nluxury, pure and simple. (I run 3 CRTs at work, instead.) I first
\nsaw Bertha being demonstrated at SIGGRAPH 2001, and fell in love
\nwith it; when both my parents died in 2003 (among other reasons)
\nI got depressed, and picking up a T221 last year was an attempt
\nto stay sane. Those following my reports of attempting to get
\na computer to work with it will know it's not reduced my stress
\nquite as much as I'd hoped, but I'm getting there. My DG5 was
\njust over $3000 (plus taxes) - a quarter of the UK list price,
\nand I *am* still paying it off - which is why I've not got myself
\na Quadro FX4400 to bypass my software problems just yet (I've
\njust been outbid on eBay, too).
\n
\nTo be honest, there's no way I'll be affording a second T221
\nfor a good long time (whatever Wilson does, I want his job!)
\nI can dream, though, and grind my teeth that there are a couple
\nof T221s at my workplace which I don't get to use every day. I'm
\nvery proud of (and pleased with) the one I've got, believe me -
\nI didn't mean to sound unappreciative!
\n
\nGood luck with eBay, though.

\n
\nThey do? I knew the T221 was being pushed as a medical display,
\nbut I wasn't aware that there was any competition over 5MP.
\nWho else makes/sells them?

\n
\nIn my experience, this kind of thing is most likely to end up
\nat private auction (although I can't see such a device being
\nclassified as "surplus" in any medical communities I know,
\nshort of a private practice going bust and having the receivers
\nauction overything off en masse). eBay is probably the best
\nglobal place. I'm guessing, though.
\n
\n> > What about 2K x 2K air traffic controller displays?
\n
\nI know they're made (Barco, for example) - and they're also
\ndual link (so hopefully the workstation cards aren't going
\nrely solely on the 30" ACD for multi-1178s). I don't know
\nwhat the turnover of equipment in air traffic control is,
\nbut my understanding was that this kind of thing (excluding
\nhigh res CRTs) is probably right at the start of its life
\nspan. I know some ATC displays need odd driving circuitry,
\nbut that may not be the case these days. The ATC community
\nis, AFAIK, pretty resistant to change, so I'd not expect to
\nsee much of their kit appearing for resale.
\n
\nThere was some talk a few years ago of an enormous military
\ndisplay (above 9MP, although the details escape my memory).
\nI don't know how it was driven, or whether it was a multi-
\npanel setup. Whether it ever went into production, or was
\navailable for civilian purchase, I'd love to know.
