\nThanks David - I am (or think I am) now much less confused!
\n
\nAgreed about the Yahoo interface, the multiple windows thing
\n(less of a problem for me now tabbed browsing tends to keep me
\ndown to about twenty Firefox windows open, with XEmacs and Visual
\nStudio supporting their internal idea of what a window is - although
\npeople here don't seem to cope with me stretching a Visual Studio
\nwindow across four monitors...), and the usefulness of window
\nmanagers (fine with two monitors, not so hot with three - not
\nfound a good way to maximize across two of them yet...)
\n
\nI'll have another play with my DG5's timing once I get my
\nmachine up and running properly (months without free time);
\nI wasn't sure how finicky it would be about odd modes. I'll
\nreport back.
\n
\nI'd like to think the thing with card manufacturers was just
\nmiscommunication; I suspect it's just "don't say anything which
\ncould lose sales", though. (There probably aren't enough returns
\nout there to make this approach invalid.)
\n
\nRe. the multiple cards as one display thing, I'd agree it would
\nbe a lot of work - but the work's already been done in order to
\nget SLi mode working; it's just the scissoring mode with a fixed
\ndivide. It'd be so easy to implement now (just don't do the
\nmerge), but the market is small. nVidia's Quadro drivers do
\nhave some kind of multi-head OpenGL "SLI" support, but I've not
\nfound to what extent it does The Right Thing, or whether DirectX
\ncould be made to cope.
\n
\nCheers again, and I'll do a better web search for your answers
\nto my posts in the future!
