\nSubject: [magnia_sg20] Quick newbie questions.....
\n
\n
\n> I saw the Toshiba SG20 on the net for less then $200 new and
\n> allthough I can make a 533Mhz computer for less. I thought I was
\n> a good deal for a all in one easy to use server appliance.
\n>
\n> I have some quick questions though..
\n>
\n> 1) I saw the hack on how you can turn the intranet server into
\n> a internet server. But is there a way you can use the SG20 (using
\n> the toshiba supplied interface) as a DNS server so you dont have to
\n> use any 3rd party servers at all?
\n
\nNot sure what you are asking here. The DNS server and software will work for
\nyour internal intranet. If you want your server to be able to put your
\naddress out on the internet then No. If you would like to use your server
\nwithout a connection to the internet at all, then yes.
\n
\n>
\n> 2) I saw that you can have the Toshiba download mail from the
\n> remote server, but is there a way that the SG20 can be a
\n> stand alone mail server (using the toshiba supplied interface)?
\n
\nIf functions as a stand alone mail sever for the internal network, you can
\ndo everything with out an internet connection, except for sending and
\nreceiving mail from the internet, and checking for software updates without
\nan internet connection.
\n>
\n> 3) If I decide to use Clarkconnect or someother 3rd party software.
\n> Will I loose the wireless, 7 port switch (or any) functionality
\n> that is supplied with the unit?
\n
\nYes in most cases (all) you will lose the front panel display/status. You
\nmay need to load additional software to get the access point feature again.
\nSwitch should work, ok.
