HX240 programming instructions: Instructions: Remove battery. Unplug external power cover (you'll see why) Remove 4 screws (2 black ones and 2 shiny ones that the battery covers up holding back half on) You can remove all 4 shiny screws, but that is how I lost some. ;) The battery lock may come off. Set it aside. Slide switch s602 to "prg" position. Ensure switch s601 is on. Put radio back together without screws. Put battery on. Hold sc/mo key and the key lock key while turning the ht on. The lcd should show 2 dashes. Functions of keys during programming: Backlight- Moves to next step Monitor (speaker symbol)-stores data to memory Channel selector knob- changes displayed info Key Lock- Deletes displayed info PTT- When held in, allows channel select knob to select transmit or receive frequencies in 1 mhz steps (useful if the ht's don't have the dtmf keypad) Programming: The first setup item you will encounter will be the channel step. Instead of 12.5 KHz, it will say 12m. Channel steps of 5, 10, 25, and 50 Khz will be normal with no letter. The channel selector knob will select the channel step. Press monitor switch to store channel step. The backlight switch will go to the next item. The next item is the timeout timer. Again, channel selector knob selects time in .5 min increments. The max is 8.5 minutes. Monitor stores the information. The backlight switch advances to the next item. Next is the frequency setup. The channel knob selects channel. Press monitor to select the channel you want to program, then press backlight to go into the data for that channel. *****If you have an "(AC)" model of HX240, you will need to program the RX frequency 23.15 MHz down from the desired RX frequency on the radio. It will recieve on the desired frequency. I don't know why the "(AC)" models are like this. The "(AA)" and "(AB)" models should be fine.***** The first item is the recieve frequency. The channel switch selects it. Holding PTT while turning the channel switch goes in 1 MHz steps. If a step of 5 or 12.5 KHz is selected, the display will show a H, M, or L in place of 2.5 KHz, 5 KHz, or 7.5 KHz respectvely. After the desired RX frequency is set (if you have an "(AC)" model, set the RX frequency 23.15 MHz below the desired one, it will come out right in the end), press monitor and backlight to go to CTCSS tone setup. Tone setup is like frequency. Channel knob selects it. After that is set, press monitor and backlight. By the way, if you mess up and press monitor, just rotation the channel knob allows you to change the information again. The TX frequency and TX CTCSS tone setup is the same as RX frequency and tone setup. To exit programming: Turn radio off. Slide switch s602 to "rad" posistion. Verify that s601 is on. Remove battery. Replace battery lock tab. Reassemble radio, with screws. If all went well, the radio should be programmed.
